On July 25, 2017, 30 Advanced Aviation course cadets from the Connaught Cadet Training Centre participated in the Yellow Wings learning program, hosted at the Vintage Wings of Canada hangar in Gatineau.
Divided into small groups, each of the young participants rotated through guided tours of the hangar and museum, an open discussion and Q&A session with veterans and retired pilots and for about 15-20 minutes each, enjoyed a 1:1 familiarization briefing and flight in one of the three vintage RCAF training aircraft (Harvard, Cornell and Finch) assigned to the task.
As a VWoC volunteer (primary: tow crew/ramp, secondary: communications), I enjoy seeing the eyes and minds of the next generationĀ light up as they each get a little closer to flying and uttering those sacred words when they finally getĀ aloft: “I have control.” While most of my day was spent on the hot ramp assisting with aircraft and personnel movements, when time permitted I took the opportunity to practice my panning techniques (more work needed on this…) and captured some of the other volunteers at work.
If you’d like to help me improve my craft, please leave a comment or two on which images connected with you most, or if you’ve got tips on technique then toss them in the mix as well – thank you!
